Due West Carpentry and Renovations ltd. Our window and door company services on the North Shore of Vancouver B.C. has been supplying and installing doors and windows since Due West was registered as a business in 1996. There isn't a renovation, addition, or remodelling project that hasn't gone by where we haven't installed new doors, windows or skylights as well as performing entire house retro fits. Part of our 'Built Green' Advanced Building Technologies training credentials has helped us identify the importance of assisting our customers in making the right window and door choices and implementing the most recent, efficient and warranty approved installation processes. Our door and window business services has not been limited to residential applications either as we have performed commercial door replacement upgrades for the Canpages directory, Intrawest Central Reservations and the West Vancouver Municipality public washrooms at John Lawson park, Horseshoe Bay park, and Whytecliff park which has included magnetic lock timers and key fob entry system applications in some of our installations. |

Changing the interior doors in a house can be one of the most attractive upgrades for your dollar since a lot of new homes throughtout the decades have had the same boring looking 6 panel or smooth paneled doors installed by developers attempting to keep costs and choices neuteral. The replacement doors can be replaced as 'slabs only' thus leaving the frames or casings intact or 'prehung' with frames if your thinking of taking it a step further and upgrading the door casings aswell.
There is a superb amount of choices these days when it comes to Doors and Windows. With Exterior doors you have Metal, Wood and Fiberglass. These days metal clad doors are more for commercial applications or garages and basement doors. Wood doors are beautifull and the design choices are plentifull. However it is important that they are finished properly and sealed on all 4 sides with stain and enough coats of varathane which increases the cost and is best done in a shop with a spray booth. It is also important to remember that a lot of suppliers use the terminology 'solid wood/core' doors on what is actually a 'veneer' door where a thin layer of the nice looking wood you see covers the substructure of the door which might be made of compressed wood chips, MDF or pieces of wood glued together. In an exterior application with a high moisture enviroment and temperature differentials from the warm inside and cold side of the door the mixture of materials will expand and contract at a different rate may cause seperation, delamination, warping and chipping over time. Fiberglass doors are a great choice for durability, appearance and cost. They are not easily identified from real wood doors and come in either smooth or textured surfaces with a wide variety of factory solid colors and stain color options (yes stain). Another thing to remember with stain grade wood doors is wether or not its really ready for stain or not. i.e. Will the finisher have to spend (and charge) 4 hours prep sanding the door for stain or only 20 min. This comes down to the door builders equipment sharpness, wood quality, wood storage moisture and other procedures. Additional and unnecessary sanding usually 'rounds off' the profile details and makes a new door look like an old door that has been 're-finished' before its even installed. |
